The B691 is a short link road in St Albans city centre. The road was originally unclassified but gained its number in the mid-1920s.
The road starts at traffic lights on the A1081 (former A6) Chequer Street at the back of the town hall. It heads east along Victoria Street past the Maltings shopping centre and then starts to be lined with houses.
At traffic lights the B6424 Alma Road turns off to the right to take traffic back to the A1081 whilst the B691 continues ahead. It goes over the top of St Albans City station on the Midland Main Line; access to the station is via traffic lights on the far side. The road now bears sharply left into the residential Stanhope Road and soon ends at traffic lights on the A1057 Hatfield Road.
