Struie Junction is also known as Skiach, due to the presence of the Skiach Services just off the junction with the A9. It lies roughly midway between Evanton and Alness, and is where the B9176 Struie Hill Road meets the A9. The junction is a simple T junction on the north side of the A9, forcing right turning traffic to cross the A9. This can be challenging at busy times, and whilst there is an alternative by passing through the Evanton Industrial Estate, which passes under the A9 to meet the southbound carriageway, that road is in poor condition and often blocked by manouvering lorries.
Struie Junction is a relatively new build, having been created when the new A9 was built to bypass Evanton and Alness. Prior to that, the A9 followed what is now the B817, which crosses the B9176 at a staggered crossroads a little to the northwest of the new junction. Between the two jucntions, the B9176 crosses the railway and also passes the access to the industrial estate and services. The Crossroads is staggered in favour of the B9176, which for many years was part of the A836, until the upgrades to the A9 were completed and it was felt that the alternative route was no longer needed as an A road.
