Greencornhills Roundabout connects the A9 and the A91 Eastern Distributor Road near Bannockburn to the south east of Stirling. This part of the A9 is obviously the historic main road to Edinburgh, but the A91 is much, much newer, the older southern arm dating only from 1974. At this time it was numbered as the 'pathetic' A99, a number which it kept until the northern section of the Eastern Distributor opened in the late 1980s. Since then, the A91 has become by far the busier of the two routes, connecting much of Stirling, its retail park and Clackmannanshire to the motorway.
The two routes cross more-or-less at right angles, giving a standard 4-arm roundabout. The A91 runs north-south and the A9 east-west. Despite high traffic volumes and the approach lanes all being 2 vehicles wide, road markings are kept to a minimum, and the junction generally flows well enough. The majority of traffic is, of course, continuing ahead.
