The B524, like most of the B52x roads, is an urban link through the suburbs of Derry. The majority of the road was originally numbered B507.
The road starts on the A2 on the bank of the Foyle and heads west past Tesco before following Clarendon Street to traffic lights on the B507 Northland Road. We now follow the original route of that road for the remainder of our route. The continuation of the B524 continues ahead along Infirmary Road but that is one-way towards us so westbound traffic has to detour via the B527, with the two directions passing either side of St Eugene's Cathedral; eastbound traffic on the B527 has to follow our road northwards to reach the B507.
Westbound traffic rejoins the B524 at traffic lights then we continue southwest along the residential Low Moor Road. We pass a park then cross a double mini-roundabout before passing the Celtic Park and Brandywell stadiums. It's not long before we reach journey's end at a mini-roundabout on the A40.
