The C502 is a short class III route to the north of Derry. It starts on the A2 Buncrana Road near the Templemore sports complex and follows Upper Galliagh Road north. The construction of the modern A515 bypass here has severed the route between the city and the countryside, resulting in two dead ends. However the rural section of the route can be obtained via a link running from a roundabout on the A515 northwards to Upper Galliagh Road. Just north of where the link meets the severed route the C502 turns off to the east along Breagh Hill Road, eventually reaching Lenamore Road. The road crosses Lenamore Road at a scattered crossroads and continues eastwards along the northern edge of the city until it TOTSOs right onto a final short segment, ending at the next T junction in Ballyarnett.
