The B56 is a short B-road in south County Antrim.
The road starts on the A57 (former B57) southwest of Ballyclare and heads southeastwards. It soon reaches Ballyrobert, where it is crossed by the B59.
A short distance further on and the B56 crosses the Belfast to Antrim railway line at a level-crossing. The road bends slightly to the left just afterwards and continues along a straight road to the edge of Newtownabbey, where it reaches the Corrs Corner roundabout and the A8.
Originally the B56 ended here. However, in recent years the A8 ahead has been declassified and through traffic diverted onto the A8(M), which is also accessible from this roundabout. The B56 has therefore been extended ahead onto the ex-A8, thus becoming urban.
The B56 continues along what still has the air of a major arterial road. After crossing a few roundabouts (meeting the B90 at the first) it ends at a set of traffic lights on the A6.
