Clay Mills is a peculiar trumpet type interchange, with an extra link to allow access to the Stretton area of Burton. The loop from the A38 Northbound to the junction is very tight- almost a 180 degree turn. As a results accidents are very common here. The Advance Direction Sign on the A38 Northbound illustrates this loop to try and prevent some of these accidents, but it has been somewhat ineffective.
