For the original junction 46, see Hunslet Interchange.
Austhorpe Interchange is junction 46 of the M1.
This was originally a conventional roundabout interchange when opened in 1999, with a dumbbell to the north being added in the early 2000s (see variation order 2000, below). It is believed that the slip roads between the roundabout and northern dumbbell are under special orders.
The north western dumbbell roundabout was enlarged in 2018 to take a new dual carriageway which would, in future, form part of the East Leeds Orbital Road. The approaches to the roundabout were widened again in 2022 and non motorised crossing facilities were added, as part of the ELOR project, and a supplementary order was published to divert a footpath which had previously terminated on the roundabout[1].
The ELOR itself opened on 22nd August 2022, and widening works on the dumbbells and improvements to the non motorised provisions on the roundabout continued into 2023, with the dumbbell roundabouts being converted into a single dogbone in December 2022.
