The C36 forms a complete ring around Cumbernauld Town Centre. We shall start at the northern junction with the A8011 at Kildrum, from where it loops around to the north east of the main development, on Kildrum Road, returning along the southern flank to meet the B8054 at an incomplete Grade Separated Junction, where the B road should continue over the roundabout. Now following South Carbrain Road, it continues south west to a modified Cloverleaf junction with the B8039. It seems that the presence of the railway led to the modified design here, although there are still 3 overbridges.
Beyond the junction, the C36 becomes Greenfaulds Road as it curves around the south of this part of Cumbernauld, returning to the north to meet the A8011 at Seafar Roundabout, the main road passing underneath. Beyond the junction, the C36 is Seafar Road, which curves around the north side of the town centre, finally returning to the start point.
