For other roads numbered C97, see C97.
The C97 starts on the B802 at Gartlea to the south of Airdrie and heads west along Sykeside Road, continuing onto Paddock Street as it turns south. After crossing the North Calder Water, the C97 continues south on Carnbroe Road to reach the eastbound carriageway of the A8. Since the recent completion of the M8, and possibly before, there is no connection to the westbound carriageway, nor the next section of the route.
For the southern part of the C97, it makes more sense to start at the Bellshill end. Here it starts on the B7070 at a roundabout and initially heads east on Hattonrigg Road, before turning north onto Carnbroe Road. This crosses the new M8, then turns east over the railway, coming to an end at Orchard Farm, trapped between the railway, A8 and M8. The northern section of the C97 is just a few yards away across the A8, but there is no connection.
