The C506 is listed as Downhill Lane and Follingsby Lane, only a small portion of which are within the Sunderland metropolitan council area. The road begins on the A1290 near the Nissan factory in Washington and heads north-west as a narrow country lane. After less than half a mile, it passes a former farm building and reaches a stone bridge over the River Don. The local authority boundary follows the river here and so this is where the C506 ends.
