The C551 is the number given to a portion of the former B1289 in northern Sunderland, running along the main shopping street in Southwick.
It begins at a mini-roundabout on the C508 Northern Way and runs up Church Bank. On classification this was the northern end of the B1290, which ran across the Queen Alexandra Bridge and into the town centre. It is not clear whether it was ever part of the B1289, but there is a route confirmation sign on a traffic island which suggests as such. The C551 turns right at a mini-roundabout where it meets the original B1289, and runs through Southwick along that road's former route. The road is called Sunderland Road, reflecting its status as the former main road towards the town centre. It passes Southwick Green before ending at a small roundabout on the B1291, which continues the former B1289 route eastwards.
