Forge Interchange is located at M54 junction 5, where it forms the main access from the motorway to Telford town centre.
It was not included in the original planning phase of M54, but was added in 1983 at the request of the New Town Development Corporation, who also paid for its construction. It replaced a half-diamond junction a short way to the east.
The roundabout at the end of the sliproads is named separately as Forge Roundabout.
Evidence has since come to light that a junction was planned in the same location as Forge Interchange in the early 1970's. A west facing fork interchange is shown from Forge Roundabout allowing access to and from the M54 west.
