Preston Circus is one of the most famous junctions in Brighton. It was originally the crossing points of the A23 and A27 where it took the form of a crossroads, however this was changed into a roundabout. In the 70s this section of the A23 and A27 was too congested so a gyratory system was put in place, with two separate systems to the north and south of Preston Circus. Also a large fire station is situated on the junction. Up until 2013, this was the south most point of the Primary Route section of the A23 according to OS Maps, however was extended all the way to the A259 in later editions. This was likely due to the fact that this is where originally the A23 and A27 crossed for most of history.
