The A5195 is a short A-road in southern Staffordshire providing the access to M6 Toll JT6.
Route
The road starts at traffic lights on the A5, where it also meets the B5011 to the south. The road is dual as it heads north to the next roundabout, from where an unclassified road continues ahead into Burntwood and we turn left. Now S2 we pass the trumpet of the motorway junction before going under the motorway mainline. A roundabout is then reached giving access to the M6 Toll.
The A5195 continues ahead, now non-primary, past a school and a cemetery on the right and with Chasewater on the left - a turn-off provides access. We continue under a footbridge which provides access to the Chasewater Railway. We continue on to a roundabout on the A5190 Chase Terrace bypass, from where the railway can be accessed by vehicle.
History
The section of road south of the motorway opened along with it in 2003 as the A5159; it is not known why the number was changed, once the northern section had been completed, as that number was not in use elsewhere and the usual speculation is that of a transcription error. The section to the north, Burntwood Bypass Stage 3 (Burntwood Way), opened in 2005. BBC reported on 20 July 2005 of the opening ceremony for the final section. Cost was £6 million.
A road ingeniously named Ring Road exists in Chase Terrace. This road was the first part of an earlier planned bypass now superceded by the A5190 and A5195 relief road.
