Annan is a Small town, on the Solway Coast between Gretna and Dumfries in southern Scotland. It is a bustling town with a busy town centre boasting some fine buildings dating back to its long life on the main road west through Galloway. Now bypassed by the A75, the town is still a busy stopping point and service town for visitors and locals alike. The town sits on the east bank of the River Annan, which formerly had a busy harbour. The towns history as a market town is also seen in the wide main street around Fish Cross. It is also the starting point for the Annandale Way path which stretches north up the river banks.

The main road past the town is the A75, which previously passed through the town centre. A busy route with a lot of lorries heading to or from the ferries for Ireland at Cairnryan near Stranraer, the bypass has relieved the town centre of this traffic. The old route of the A75 is now the B721, which runs from Gretna to the western end of the bypass. Along the way, it meets 4 other B roads, 3 of which head north whilst the last continues westwards.

The easternmost is the B6357, which heads a little north of east from the eastern end of the town, across the Kirkpatrick Fleming on the A74(M) Motorway. The B722 starts right in the town centre and heads closer to north to also meet the motorway near Kirtlebridge. Across the river, and just before the end of the B721, the B723 takes a more westerly route, but still manages to intercept the motorway near Lockerbie. The final B road is the B724, which also meets the B721 on the western bank of the river, and heads west, following the railway to Dumfries. After a few miles, the B725 branches off and takes the longer coastal route to Dumfries. Finally, the B7020 forks off the A75 a couple of miles west of Annan, although some mapping now suggests this route has been declassiifed.
