This route is currently run by Irish Ferries who in 2013 announced a new once a week return journey from Dublin to Cherbourg. The crossing time is 16.5 hours. It was previously operated by P&O between 2001 and 2004
In 2018, additional sailings were sold, but passengers needed to be refunded as the new ferry that Irish Ferries had commissioned was not completed. In 2019, Irish Ferries started operation of the route following delivery of the WB Yeates, and closed their Rosslare to Roscoff and Rosslare to Cherbourg routes.
