EuroRoute was a rival proposal to the Channel Tunnel that completed the crossing via two road bridges and a tunnel, as well as a rail tunnel. It would also have required the contruction of three artificial islands within the English Channel, two to transfer between a bridge and the central tunnel (and including various other services), and the third used to host tunnel ventilation equipment.
