The B5440 is an urban link road through the eastern suburbs of Tamworth. The road gained its number around 1980 with the growth of the town.
The road starts at a large roundabout on the B5404 (former A5) in Wilnecote and heads north along Marlborough Way. The side verges are wider than expected which suggests there was more planned for this road. We cross a roundabout serving Morrisons and a housing estate and then bear clockwise around the suburb of Belgrave. There are only a few buildings fronting onto the B5440 and we also pass a couple of roads serving residential areas, one of which is the former B5349 Wilnecote Lane.
After going past the fire station we cross the present A5 at a roundabout GSJ and then continue north into Glascote Heath. The road ends at another roundabout on the B5000.
