The B5422 is a fairly short road in southwest Lancashire. It was originally a part of the A567 but gained its present number when the latter road was rerouted in 1935.
Starting from a crossroads junction with the A5147 in Maghull, the B5422 runs for 7 km in a generally southwesterly direction through Sefton to another crossroads, this time with the A5036 and A5090 in Litherland. On the way, the route intersects the A5758 and the B5207 (former A5207) on the west side of Netherton.
