Aycliffe

The B6444 is a link road in south Durham. It was unclassified for many years but gained its number around 1997.

The road starts at a roundabout on the A167 just north of A1(M) J59 and heads west along St Andrew's Way, signed to Newton Aycliffe Business Park; this is reached at the next roundabout. We bear right to run through the park to another roundabout. The road up to this point is a bypass for Aycliffe but we now bear left to head westwards away from the village.

After another roundabout we cross a level crossing on the Bishop Auckland branch line; the platforms of Heighington station straddle the road in such a way that trains stop at the station then go over the level crossing. We leave the business park at the next roundabout and then continue along a straight road with fields sometimes visible behind the vegetation lining the road. Before the B6444 came into being the unclassified road continued into Heighington but this is now bypassed so our road presently bears right to end at a roundabout on the A6072 bypass.
