The original route of the B6425 was allocated to Stockingstone Road, on the north side of Luton, Bedfordshire. Whilst not part of the original 1922 road numbers, it was nevertheless allocated fairly early on, appearing in the 1932 edition of the Ten Mile Road Map.
The road was upgraded to the A5228 at some time between 1960 and 1975; it remains this number.
