The B9116 is a short road leading from the A96 in Keith to the B9017 at Newmill. Although not classified in 1922, it had been numbered by 1932, with the fact that it passes close to Keith Station (formerly Keith Junction) possibly helping its cause. Today it also serves as access to the Strathisla Distillery.
Starting on the A96 towards the northern end of Keith town centre, the route heads north and downhill along Seafield Avenue, and then curves westwards past the distillery. The road ahead leads down to the station, crossing on its way the trackbed of the old railway to Dufftown (now a preserved line but separated from the main railway, so there is a short section where the track has been removed) but the B9116 TOTSOs sharp right onto Newmill Road, and heads north again, curving round the hill before a sharp left turn takes it over the main railway. A crossroads serving a sewage works follows immediately, and then the Bridge of Isla (Newmill) crosses the River Isla, all in quick succession. Newmill is now just a short distance away, and after another crossroads the road winds through some trees as it climbs up to meet the B9017 at the western end of the village. The final section after the crossroads is the original route of the B9017 but it is not yet known whether the B9116 ever ended there.
