It has many unusual features for such a short route, and the road is possibly the shortest entirely Trunk Road in England. It is also unusual in having a section that is both a Non Primary Route and a Trunk Road. There are also sections that are single carriageway, whilst another is dual carriageway with different numbers of lanes in each direction, and two more are for one-way traffic only. Indeed, it is only possible to drive in one direction along the entire length of the road. It is also probably the most U-shaped road in the United Kingdom - whilst the distance along the road is just under a mile, the distance between the two ends is just over 100m - in other words, it is much faster to walk between the two ends of the road, than drive along it. It is entirely a clearway with a speed limit of 40 mph.
The first section consisting of the extended former entry slip and the easternmost roundabout opened on 15th September 2014. However, the section led inescapably to M54, and so this section was signed as part of M54 until the road completely opened. On 6th October 2014, the second section opened, this time consisting of the extended former entry slip and the northernmost roundabout opened, and the first A4510 signage appeared as a flag sign at this roundabout. The remaining non-primary section of the road between the two M54 sliproads opened in 11th December 2014.
