Staffordshire County Council's locally classified C500 forms the access routes both to and through the commuter estate of Perton on the western side of Wolverhampton.
It forms an entire loop around the estate, but also contains the two links to the C260 which passes to the west. Every car journey that enters or leaves Perton has to use this route. The estate was designed so that the only direct links across the local authority boundary to City of Wolverhampton Council's domain are for pedestrian traffic, plus a single bus-only road.
The road was constructed in stages between 1979 and 1987, partially along the line of the perimeter road of the WW2 RAF Perton.
