For another former B4158 in Dudley, see B4158 (Dudley).
For the current use of the number in Chippenham, Wiltshire, see B4158.
The original route of the B4158 ran through Wolverhampton city centre, along Garrick Street, Market Street and Princess Street. It became part of the A459 upon the pedestrianisation of Dudley Street in the late 1960s before being downgraded entirely in 1986 when the A4150 Inner Ring Road was completed to the east of the city centre.
It is now impossible to traverse the entire route in either direction using a car, and indeed none of the route is possible to drive southbound. Northbound traffic may use Garrick Street, but then a short stretch between Bilston Street and Tower Street is restricted to buses and taxis. North of Tower Street, the use of the road is northbound only until the junction with Queen Street, at which point the section up to Berry Street is again restricted to buses and taxis. Between Berry Street and Princes Square all northbound traffic is once again allowed.
