City of Wolverhampton Council's locally classified U117 runs north-south across the western side of the city, forming an end-on connection to the B4161 at the southern end; whilst the northern end has an end-on connection with Staffordshire County Council's C6.
In functional terms, it connects the A41 (and hence Wolverhampton city centre) with various suburbs in the northwest of the city such as Claregate and Palmer's Cross; as well as the large commuter villages of Codsall and Bilbrook which lie just outside the local authority boundary.
