Route
The B188 is a short road in north County Londonderry.
The road starts on the B66 opposite St Guaire's Church in Aghadowey and heads southeast. It follows the dead-straight Ballygawley Road across more-or-less flat land. Presently the road bears left to avoid crossing the Agivey River and follows the river downstream to reach a T-junction. Left is the B207 and the B188 TOTSOs right, crossing the river immediately.
We soon reach a left-hand bend which returns us to our southeasterly course. The road continues across the fields before bearing right to end at a T-junction on the A54.
History
The B188 was originally unclassified but gained its number in the late 1920s. At that time it started on the B66 by the now-gone Aghadowey station, a couple of miles east of its present starting point. It headed south along what is now the B207 to reach its present route at the TOTSO by the bridge over the Agivey River, after which it continued southeast as it does now to reach the A54.
The northern half of the road was quickly moved to its present route into Aghadowey proper and the old route was declassified. It later regained Class II status as part of the B207.
