The B9051 is a short B-road, single-track throughout, on the eastern side of Orkney Mainland.
The route starts by turning off the A960 where that road ends, the onward route being the B9050. It then heads almost due north, winding a little past some houses before following a long undulating straight past Mossquoy and across a patchwork of small fields. It then starts to slowly drop down the hill, past the farms at Keigar and on towards the coast, with a couple of turnings serving the western side of Deerness Parish along the way. After almost two miles, it has nearly reached the shore of Deer Sound, with only the slightest of bends along the way. However, it ends by kinking to the left at a junction with a farm track, and dropping down the last few metres to the shore. An unclassified road continues ahead, curving along the shore to serve a handful of properties.
