The B9053 is a short link in St Ola parish, Orkney. It connects the A964 at Upper Scapa, south of Kirkwall, to Scapa Pier.
For the first quarter of a mile the route – part of Scapa Old Road – runs almost due south to reach the shore, where it turns sharp left to follow the curving beach around the north end of Scapa Bay for 0.4 miles. At the far end of the beach it TOTSOs right at a junction with the equally short B9148 (Scapa New Road) coming in from the A963 on the southern edge of Kirkwall. Originally, both classified routes ended at this junction (Scapa New Road having been until some time in the 1980s a part of the A963). However, at some point before 1959, the B9053 was extended southwards for a further quarter mile to reach the landward end of Scapa Pier. Due to the shortness of the route, and a lack of large scale mapping, it is very difficult to be certain when this extension happened.
