The B9050, along with the B9051, serves mainland Orkney's most easterly parish, Deerness.
The route starts as a continuation of the A960, where the B9051 turns off, forming a three-way junction where each branch has a different number! It then heads north-eastward across Deerness, passing through Gritley which seems to be the largest of the scattered settlements in the parish. After passing the Deerness Stores, the road crosses a couple of small fields, before following a long straight which passes a steady line of roadside properties, occasionally split by small fields. A slight kink at the Gringar Crossroads sees the road briefly leave the houses behind once more as it drops down to reach the coast of Sandside Bay at Skaill. Here the road bends sharply left, but the B9050 comes to an end, the onward route being an unclassified road which leads north to the car park for The Gloup and Mull Head Bird Reserves.
