Essential Traffic Routes were a wartime numbering system used in the second world war to guide military vehicles around the country at a time when many road signs had been removed.
Only those routes in the North of England and Scotland can be identified from the copy of Sheet 1 so far found. short routes through bypassed towns are not included in the table below.
