For the original junction 9, see Glasgow Airport Interchange.
Easterhouse Road Interchange is junction 9 of the M8. It originated as a half diamond layout connecting the motorway to the unclassified Easterhouse Road, with west facing slips only due to the proximity of Baillieston Interchange to the east. However, the onslip has been interrupted by a roundabout serving the neighbouring industrial estate, with the connection to Easterhouse Road being converted to a short section of D1 dual carriageway. The offslip meets Easterhouse Road at a simple give way, but the onslip junction has been signalised. The junction was built in 1979 as part of the eastern extension of the motorway, and was almost certainly provided to try and improve conditions in the Easterhouse Estate to the north, which has at times been one of the most deprived parts of Glasgow. The estate was therefore provided with two junctions, as the Westerhouse Road Interchange lies at the western end of Easterhouse. In recent years, most of the old low rise flats have been demolished and replaced with modern housing, which along with improvements to the communities facilities, have done far more than the motorway junction managed.
