The A4 was originally a route between [[Castletown] and Kirk Michael. The route was possibly extended to Ramsey, along the A3, before the two routes swapped numbers.
The Manx Government Circular 1131 of 25/02/1926 defines this route as: Castletown to Kirk Michael
