The original B24 started on the A4 at Ballig Bridge to the north of St Johns, and headed west, briefly curving with the River Neb, before it meandered away. After a double bend, it passed through Poortown and then reached Peel, where it followed Derby Road in towards the town centre. In the first instance, however, the classified road network on the Isle of Man did not extend into the towns, so the B24 would have ended at the boundary, and was only extended later to reach the A3. The whole route was later renumbered as the A20, before 1963.
The Manx Government Circular 1131 of 25/02/1926 defines this route as: Poortown-road, from Peel boundary to Ballig Bridge
