The B8078 was a short link road on the edge of Stirling city centre but was one of those routes that is hard to explain.
In the 1970s construction of the A9 throughpass took traffic out of the centre of town; the old road was renumbered as an extension of the B8052. At the same time the new Goosecroft Road was built alongside the new A9, the northern half of which (as far as Station Road) was given the B8078 number; the A811 formed a one-way system to the south, incorporating the former B9111 route along the southern part of Goosecroft Road to reach the new A9. However, before long the parallel B8052 Barnton Street was declassified and so the number took over the route along Goosecroft Road, making the B8078 number redundant.
Common sense would suggest that, as with other such roads, The B8078 route should always have been part of the B8052, but for some reason a different number was deemed appropriate for the few years before the B8052 was moved out of the town centre.
