The B8078 was a short link road on the edge of Stirling but was one of those routes that is hard to explain.
In the 1970s construction of the A9 throughpass took traffic out of the centre of town; the old road was renumbered B8052. At the same time the new Goosecroft Road was built alongside the new A9, the northern half of which (as far as Station Road) was given the B8078 number; the A811 formed a one-way system to the south, incorporating the former B9111 route to the new A9. However, the parallel B8052 Barnton Street was soon declassified and so that road took over our route, making the B8078 number redundant.
Common sense would suggest that, as with other such roads, our road should always have been part of the B8052, but for some reason a different number was deemed appropriate for the few years before the B8052 was moved out of the town centre.
