Stena Line operate a route from Twelve Quays Terminal at Birkenhead to VT2 in Belfast. The crossing time is eight hours.
The route either travels to the north or the south of the Isle of Man, dependent on weather and tide.
Vessels commenced service on the route in 2002[1], replacing the previous route that had run from Liverpool. This saved a significant amount of time on the crossing, as sailings from Liverpool were behind lock gates.
In 2019, work commenced at Birkenhead's 12 Quays Terminal and Belfast Vicoria Terminal 2 to add upper linkspans and to lengthen the berth to accommodate larger vessels. This was completed in 2020.
