Dolphingstone Junction is a junction on the A1. It is at the east end of the Musselburgh bypass and the west end of the Tranet bypass. Both bypasses, and thus this junction, opened on 27 March 1986. The junction layout is a fairly ordinary Diamond interchange type, with simple give-ways onto the A199 which passes over the A1 at the junction. Partly because the two routes cross at an acute angle, the sliproads are staggered. This also reduces conflicts from turning traffic, especially as there are not turning lanes provided. The western half of the junction has been singalised, but not the eastern side, presumably because the lights provide enough breaks in traffic for both sides.
