Gateshead Quays Interchange (as of February 2014, Junction 69 of the A1) is a major junction for Gateshead and Newcastle.
Collector Distributor carriageways are currently under construction between this junction and Lobley Hill Interchange.
What is now the A184, then A692, was intended to continue southwards through the junction along the former railway line and bypass the village of Sunniside. An early proposal shows a three level stacked roundabout but this was soon changed to the layout as built which would have allowed access to the unbuilt A692 from the A184 only. A piece of armco barrier in the central reservation still shows the start of this unbuilt road.
