The Clydeside Expressway starts at the Anderston Interchange with the M8, and heads west. Finnieston Street is the first junction it reaches, where the mainline of the A814 soars over the top on a concrete flyover, dropping sliproads down to the traffic light controlled junction below.
To the south, Finnieston Street appears to be part of the A814, leading down towards the Clyde Arc but turning east along the banks of the Clyde at a TOTSO junction just before the bridge. This then links up with the mainline of the A814 once more beyond the motorway. To the north, Finnieston street is an unclassified city street leading up to Argyle Street, which was the original route of the A814 out of the city centre, and the A82 before that.
In the last few years, there has been a lot of change along this section of the Clyde with the construction of the SECC, then the Clyde Arc, and more development still under way. This has led to some changes in the roads in the area and an apparent attempt to move local traffic off of the Expressway. However, for now, this junction remains as originally constructed, with one exception. Finneston Street to the south is now one-way away from the junction. This means that traffic trying to reach the Expressway westbound has to head south, then turn right and right again, around part of the SEC complex, onto Congress Way. From here, a signalised junction provides access to the Expressway onslip, or left onto the parallel Stobcross Road, or if you wish you can turn right and do it all again!
