Junctions related to the A935 | |||
St Anne's Junction lies at the western end of the A90 Brechin Bypass, and is the main connection to the town from the south and west. It is asymmetrical, with the westbound sliproads lying to the west of the A935 overbridge, and the eastbound slips to the east. These two pairs of sliproads are then connected by a small roundabout on the south side of the A90. Both sliproads also have side roads turning off them, providing access to properties which lie alongside the A90 to the west, and would have been accessed directly from the main road before it was dualled. One of the properties to the north is called St Anne's Cottage, apparently giving the junction its name.
History
The junction was built as part of the bypass, which opened as the A94, being re-numbered to the A90 in the mid 1990s. The original line of the A94 continued east along what is now the A935 into Brechin, where it turned north and has been renumbered as the B966. Construction of the bypass didn't save a lot of distance, but it did save a lot of time as even today Brechin can be slow to pass through for traffic on the A935. This route seems to have been extended out to the junction in favour of the A933 (over whose route the A935 was extended) as it made a more logical east-west route to Montrose with a single number.
