In contrast to some of the other new junctions on the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route, the Kingswells South Junction appears to be a fairly straightforward Roundabout interchange, with the new A90 passing under the A944. The junction has the advantage of being sited outside the main urban area of Aberdeen, and so no compromises were required when designing the junction. The A944 is dualled to either side of the junction, and so has two approach and departure lanes on either arm, to match the two circulatory lanes around the oval roundabout itself. This roundabout has been elongated in order to accommodate three additional minor routes, and so remove the need for them to have junctions onto the A944 mainline, although this is not completely achieved as there are two right turns to the west of the main junction.

The additional side roads are, to the north west corner Borrowstone Road, and to the north east its former line along Old Borrowstone Road which has been retained to serve a single property. From the south east corner runs a minor road which serves the various properties to the east of the new bypass route. This formerly started a little to the west of the new junction, with the old road retained and extended to serve properties on the eastern side of the bypass whose accesses had otherwise been cut off.
