The A92 runs between Dunfermline and Blackdog via Aberdeen

The A96 runs between Aberdeen and Inverness.

Proposed Upgrade

Following studies between 2008 and 2014, Transport Scotland proposed several options for upgrade of the roundabout.

On the shortlist were:

  • Option 4 - replacement with signalised crossroads
  • Option 5 - new dual carrigeway link road
  • Option 13 - new larger signalised roundabout

Consultation on these ended in June 2014, with Transport Scotland expressing a preference for Option 5. Draft Orders were published in June 2015.

The Link Road

A contractor was appointed in January 2019, with a planned completion date of Spring 2021. This was delayed in December 2020 to Winter 2021, and in December 2021 was delayed again until Spring 2022[1].

The 0.3 mile dual carriageway between North Anderson Drive (A92) and Auchmill Road (A96) was opened on 16 May 2022 by Jenny Gilruth, Transport Minister. Cost was £49.5 million.
