Proposed Upgrade
Following studies between 2008 and 2014, Transport Scotland proposed several options for upgrade of the roundabout.
On the shortlist were:
- Option 4 - replacement with signalised crossroads
- Option 5 - new dual carrigeway link road
- Option 13 - new larger signalised roundabout
Consultation on these ended in June 2014, with Transport Scotland expressing a preference for Option 5. Draft Orders were published in June 2015.
The Link Road
A contractor was appointed in January 2019, with a planned completion date of Spring 2021. This was delayed in December 2020 to Winter 2021, and in December 2021 was delayed again until Spring 2022[1].
The 0.3 mile dual carriageway between North Anderson Drive (A92) and Auchmill Road (A96) was opened on 16 May 2022 by Jenny Gilruth, Transport Minister. Cost was £49.5 million.
