For the original, which ran between Ipswich and Felixstowe and is now A14 and A154, see A139 (Ipswich - Felixstowe).
The A139 is a short road in Stockton-on-Tees following a bypassed section of the A19.
The road starts at a roundabout at the northern corner of the A1305 ring road, which also marks the end of the A177. The road heads north along the suburban Norton Road into Norton itself where there is a short dual-carriageway section around the junction with the B1274. After a roundabout (which provides easier access to the B1274 via an unclassified road) the road is dual once more; this lasts for as long as it takes for the road to go round a corner to meet another roundabout, which is the one of the roundabouts on a dumbbell GSJ with the A19. There are only south-facing slip roads here. The A139 continues across the main road to the other roundabout where it ends. To the left is the continuation of the former A19, now numbered A1027, which provides access to the northbound A19.
