The B3149 follows part of the old A361 through the western part of Barnstaple.
From the Pottington dual carriageway, the A361 TOTSOs onto the Barnstaple Western bypass, which was opened in May 2007; the B3149 continues straight on along Braunton Road, which was the A361 until the opening of the bypass. After traffic lights, the B3149 continues along Rolle Street, crosses the River Yeo, and meets a roundabout junction with the top end of Barnstaple High Street and North Walk. There is then a very short dual-carriageway section before the B3149 terminates at another roundabout, where it meets the A39.
