The B3143 is one of the longest B-roads in Dorset, crossing the hills north of Dorchester and running parallel to the A352, which it never meets.
It starts in the Blackmore Vale at a junction with the A3030 and heads in a southerly direction. The first small village reached is King's Stag followed by the slightly larger (and more spread out) village of Pulham. The B3146 leaves to the west and then we pass through Buckland Newton before climbing to a summit near Henley. We descend to Alton Pancras where we join the River Piddle and follow the river through Piddletrenthide and White Lackington to Piddlehinton.
After Piddlehinton the B3143 passes the Enterprise Park and meets the western end of the B3142 which continues along the river valley. The B3143 climbs to the southwest and crosses the hills to Dorchester. There is a short multiplex west along the B3150 (pre-bypass A35) across the River Frome before the B3143 reappears and passes through the suburb of Fordington, turning left at a mini-roundabout where it meets a road called Little Britain. It ends shortly afterwards at another mini-roundabout on the B3144.
