The B3162 is a long largely rural B-road in the West Country.
Its southern end is in Bridport. Originally it started on the A35 in the town centre; however, the A35 now bypasses the town to the south so the B3162 has been extended in both directions along the pre-bypass A35 to meet that road at either end.
Heading north from its original starting point the B3162 climbs gradually, via several small villages, to the Wessex Ridgeway on Waddon Hill, before descending to Broadwindsor where it TOTSOs left on meeting the B3163. There is then a one-way system through the village centre shared with the B3164: northbound traffic heads straight along Back Lane but southbound traffic is diverted via the High Street. When the two directions meet again by the White Lion, Back Lane has to give way.
The B3162 leaves Broadwindsor heading north and follows a stream to Drimpton, where it turns sharply left to cross it. Another shallow valley is then crossed, with the B3165 on the far side, before the road turns northwards again and crosses the West of England Main Line and the River Axe in quick succession before entering Winsham.
After crossing another valley the B3162 meets the B3167 which it crosses via a short multiplex in the hamlet of Street. After heading due west for about a mile the road bends sharply right in Forton before entering Chard. There is a short multiplex along the A358 around the churchyard before the B3162 turns off signposted Honiton and Exeter (A30). That road is met a few hundred yards later at the end of the B3162.
