This article is about the original B3161, now the A3066.

The original route of the B3161 went north from near the Dorset coast at Bridport to south Somerset at Haselbury Plucknett, near Crewkerne. En route, it went through the Beaminster Tunnel.
The road was upgraded to Class I status early on, becoming the A3066 in the early 1930s. The Bridport end has been rerouted to join the A35 bypass (the original route was along St Andrews Road) but the rest is unchanged.
