Route
The B6340 runs for just under half a mile in the Scottish border village of Newtown St Boswells, southeast of Galashiels. It follows the pre-bypass route of the A68 from the northern end of the village bypass to the Scottish Borders Council offices in the centre of Newtown St Boswells, where it meets the B6398.
The B6340 came into being when the A68 was moved onto the bypass on 29 October 1990 - but only as the southern half of its present route; the northern half became an extension of the A6091. The B6340 was extended north to the bypass when the A6091 was rerouted.
