The B6312 is a short B-road to the north of Durham.
The route starts at a roundabout on the A167 (former A1) on the western edge of Plawsworth and heads west. It goes through Nettlesworth before crossing a few fields to get to Sacriston, where it goes through the village centre, crossing the B6532 at traffic lights.
The road now heads in a more southerly direction. It enters open country again for even less distance than before and starts descending into the valley of the River Browney. The next village, Witton Gilbert, is soon entered and the road continues into the village centre, where it reaches a T-junction.
Originally the B6312 ended here on the A691. That road now bypasses the village so the B6312 has been extended to meet it. Maps show that the road has taken over both directions of the pre-bypass road although signs at this junction claims that the left turn is only for local traffic; certainly in this direction vehicles can only turn left onto the A691. Traffic turning right at the T-junction reaches a roundabout on the A-road.
